Immigrants

In 2018, 15% of H-1B visas were denied, as opposed to the 7% in 2017, 6% in 2016 and 4% in 2015. Many among those denied H-1B visas are Asian immigrants like my own father who immigrated to the US on a full scholarship as a hardware engineer and worked his way up the semiconductor industry to become a senior director at Broadcom and Marvell. Immigrants and the diversity of experiences they bring help make our country more robust. 50% of Fortune 500 CEOs are immigrants or children of immigrants. Many among those denied applications would have become future cornerstones of our nation’s economy. It is in our nation’s interest to incorporate, rather than vilify immigrants, to provide a path to citizenship rather than a path to prison.
